We’ve been manufacturing high-quality trays from post-consumer PET for over 20 years, consistently meeting our customer expectations and all relevant food safety standards.
We want to see our products become a key element of the circular economy, so we design each and every one with its whole life cycle in mind. Because PET is an easily recyclable material it can be turned into more food grade packaging without compromising functionality or safety. Our mission is to improve the recyclability of food packaging which will increase the availability of this valuable raw material, closing the loop.
It is estimated* that one million tonnes of PET trays are produced in the EU27+3 per annum. 25% is collected and sorted for recycling and only 5% is turned back into PET food trays.
750k tonnes of tray PET is wasted every year! Our kp Tray2Tray® initiative creates a closed loop for food trays. We work with our partners to recover used food trays and turn them into new food packaging trays. kp Tray2Tray® has the potential, on its own, to bring more than 50k tonnes back into the game.

We’ve come a long way in just a few short years. In fact, this initiative has received two awards for leading the way to create a more circular economy:
• Footprint Awards – Sustainable Supplier Award of the Year
• Liderpack Awards – Best Food Packaging Award
kp Tray2Tray® is available in our kp Elite® , kp Eternal® and kp Evolve® trays and the vast majority of other tray product lines, depending on customer requirements.
kp is the first food packaging manufacturer to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of rigid films and trays made from up to 35% post-consumer rPET tray flake and is safe for food contact. Certification and traceability is built into our supply chain with SAP traceability and third party associations to ensure safety and quality of end products made with recycled PET.
kp Tray2Tray® isn’t just for clear trays. kp Kapture® is made from near-infrared (NIR) detectable pigment allowing it to be successfully detected in today’s sorting and recycling systems to close the loop on black and coloured plastics.

Our broad and ambitious sustainability strategy drives us to design new, recyclable products and to close the loop by using more recycled material in our post-consumer recycled films. We will also become more efficient, cut carbon emissions, and help our customers and end-consumers play their part.

There is a colour variation compared to virgin material, but it isn’t noticeable on the shelf. When the trays are stacked, it is more noticeable. This variation is a selling point that could be marketed to end consumers. It demonstrates that the pack contains recycled material in the same way as organisations certified or licenced by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) can leverage the power of the globally recognized logo.
kp Tray2Tray® flake performs like any other recycled PET and can be sorted and recycled back into more food grade packaging with no compromise on functionality or safety.
Our supply chain is certified by RecyClass and ensure the safety, quality and traceability of our trays and rigid films that are made with recycled PET. If you need certificates for your project, please request a sales call above.
Using kp Tray2Tray® can result in lower eco taxes in countries where EPR schemes incentivise the use of PCR PET from bottles and/or food trays. To find out what your eco tax discount could be, please request a sales call above.
