Replacing recycled content from bottles with recycled content from trays is at the heart of kp's Tray2Tray® programme. kp works with its partners who recover used PET food trays and turn them into new high quality raw material for kp to manufacture new rigid films. As a result, kp Tray2Tray® SmartCycle® PET rigid films for form, fill and seal and thermoforming applications are fully circular.
Our PET rigid films can incorporate up to 35% of kp Tray2Tray® flake, which is suitable for direct food contact as per EFSA and FDA regulations and its’ traceability is certified by RecyClass. *Our customers can claim an eco-tax discount in countries (eg: France) where EPR schemes specifically incentivise the use of post-consumer recycled PET from food trays.
Available in all PET combinations as a drop-in solution, except for kp Hotfill®, kp Tray2Tray® flake can be incorporated into both mono and multilayer PET rigid films, whether transparent or coloured. This innovative Rigid film provides high barrier protection without sacrificing performance. On the shelf, they have excellent transparency, gloss and finish and lock seal or peel seal options are available.

Frequently asked questions
Do products made with kp Tray2Tray® cost more?
Our PET rigid films made with kp Tray2Tray® do not result in higher costs. In fact, they can result in lower eco and plastic taxes in countries where EPR schemes incentivise the use of PCR PET from food trays. How will my product look on the shelf? Will it be less transparent than virgin material?
There is a colour variation compared to virgin material, but it isn’t noticeable on the shelf. When the trays are stacked, it is more noticeable. This variation is a selling point that could be marketed to end consumers. It demonstrates that the pack contains recycled material in the same way as organisations certified or licenced by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) can leverage the power of the globally recognized logo.
How can I be sure I’m really getting kp Tray2Tray® recyclate?
Our supply chain is certified by RecyClass and ensure the safety, quality and traceability of our trays and rigid films that are made with recycled PET. If you need certificates for your project, please request a sales call above.
Can you provide me with rigid films with more than 35% recycled content?
In addition to the up to 35% PCR coming from trays, we can indeed add more PCR to SmartCycle® films, including content from our Recycled Coastal Plastics® initiative.
Does kp Tray2Tray® affect the performance of the finished product?
kp Tray2Tray® flake performs like any other recycled PET and can be sorted and recycled back into more food grade packaging with no compromise on functionality or safety.
